In 2011, Volkart Foundation - then called Volkart Vision - became SURCOD's first funding partner. Together with this very old and renown Swiss foundation, we have developed and implemented the Chididi Savings and Capacity Building project from January 2011 to December 2013. The project, aiming at enhancing women's independence, saving spirit and entrepreneur skills, was welcomed by Volkart Vision as it puts a lot of emphasis on gender empowerment. Willing to keep on supporting SURCOD's work in the communities of Chididi, Volkart Vision is now funding the Green Manure project whose primary goal is to address the issue of soil depletion and thus increase soil fertility in Chididi using the ecological fertiliser called tithonia. The project is designed for a 2-year period from 2014 to 2015. Read more about Volkart Vision on their website.

“Global Education Network” is a non-profit initiative of nine organisations from Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Through GLEN, young Europeans can do informative internships in the South and built their capacities in development co-operation and global education. In 2013, SURCOD received its first two international volunteers, Kadri and Mathilde, respectively from Estonia and Germany. The two GLEN volunteers stayed with us between July and October and took part in a project called Economic Empowerment for the Women in Chididi through our Savings and Capacity Building project. We are currently looking at the possibility to continue our partnership with GLEN in order to receive new and committed international volunteers. Read more about GLEN on their website.

SURCOD is proud to be Amaidi's first Malawian partner. Our partnership with Amaidi started in 2012 and is currently developing into a clearer vision as to how SURCOD can provide future participants with a valuable and life-changing volunteer experience. Launched in India in 2006 as 'Amaidi Volunteering in India', Amaidi has rapidly transformed itself into an international organisation offering volunteer placements on nearly all continents. Apart from volunteering, Amaidi is committed to help its project partners - grassroots NGOs, schools, hospitals and care-homes - by promoting social impact investment and responsible tourism. Since May 2012, SURCOD is in a partnership with Birthing Kit Foundation of Australia which led to the implementation of the Birthing kits support project. The project aims at promoting safe motherhood and reducing maternal deaths which, sadly, remain a real issue in Malawi. Since the initiation of the project, 6 000 birthing kits have been distributed in Nsanje, Chikhwawa, Lilongwe, Zomba and Chiradzulu. In November 2013, our partnership with BKFA was scaled up as we received 15 000 kits which were distributed to more health centres and that improved the working conditions of midwives and contributed to reducing maternal mortality. Vitamin Angels is a USA-based NGO created in 1994 whose mission is to “reduce child mortality worldwide by connecting essential nutrients with infants and children under five.” In March 2013, SURCOD created a partnership with this successful international NGO which resulted in the donation of vitamin A capsules and albendazole tablets (deworming drug). Those tablets were further donated to Nsanje district hospital. In April 2013, SURCOD’s director was invited to a training session in Blantyre in order to learn how the medicine is to be administered. The project has a five-year (2013-2018) life span and two annual provisions have been planned. Read more about Vitaming Angels on their website.
